02What decides it
The BL6608 wraparound in TR90 nylon with a 62 mm polarized TAC lens: grey, blue, green, orange or brown, sold one pair at a time or two to a box.
Everything about this frame is a decision about where the light comes from. The lens wraps because on a boat deck or a bike the glare arrives from the side as well as the front, and a flat lens leaves a bright strip at each edge of your vision. The arm is 123 mm, shorter than the arm on a dress frame, so the tip grips the side of your head instead of resting on it; that is why this pair stays on when you turn your head fast, and it is also why the fit reads as snug on the first day.
The lens colours are five answers to five kinds of day. Grey is the one to buy first: it takes the brightness down without changing what colour anything is, so a brake light stays red. Blue and green are mirror coats on a grey base and throw back more light on open water. Orange is for the flat grey afternoon when the road has no contrast in it, and brown sits between. If you want two of those answers, the two-packs put a grey pair beside a coloured one for $19.99, which is $9.99 a pair, and one of them can live in the glovebox.
UV400 on a lens means the lens is rated to stop ultraviolet light up to a wavelength of 400 nanometres, which covers UVA and UVB, the two bands that reach the ground. That rating is the whole of what a sunglass lens does about the sun; polarization is a separate property that cuts reflected glare and, in the words of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, provides no UV protection on its own. The academy also says a darker lens is not a safer lens and that the sun's rays pass through haze and cloud, so the number to read on any pair, ours included, is the UV rating rather than the tint. A pair of sunglasses is not treatment for any eye condition, and light sensitivity that arrived suddenly is a question for an optometrist or ophthalmologist, not for a lens.
Every sentence in this note about the eye comes from a named public source. All of them, with the date we read them, are on our updates page.

03Asked on this shelf
The three things people ask us about men's sport wraps before they choose a pair.
Grey first, if you only buy one: it takes the brightness down and leaves colours where they were, so a brake light is still red. Blue and green are mirror coats on a grey base for open water. Orange is for the flat grey afternoon when the road has no contrast, and brown warms the view without going as far. The two-packs put a grey beside one of the others for $19.99.
Snug, on purpose. The arm is 123 mm, shorter than a dress frame, so the tip grips the side of the head rather than resting on the ear, and the lens wraps to close the bright strip at the edge of your vision. One reviewer calls the fit snug in his first line; on a bike or a boat that is the point of it, and on a wide head it is the thing to check first against the 137 mm frame width.
The box carries a pouch and a cleaning cloth, and reviewers mention both. Keep the pouch in the car: the frame is TR90 nylon and takes a knock by flexing, but a polarized film scratches like any lens if it rides loose with keys.
