The number to notice on this frame is 42, the height of the lens in millimetres. A shallow sunglass lens leaves a strip of sky over its top edge when you sit behind a wheel, and that strip is where the brightness is at four in the afternoon. This lens comes up to the brow, and the gradient brown that most of the shelf carries is darkest at the top for the same reason: the sky needs more stopping than the dashboard does. The frame is polycarbonate, rigid and light, with a metal hinge inside it, and the arm is 138 mm, long enough to rest rather than grip.
The honest note on this page is width. At 139 mm across on a 16 mm bridge this is a medium frame, and one reviewer with a wider face found it too small and gave hers to her children; she is quoted on the front page rather than left out. Hold a ruler across your temples in a mirror before you choose, and if it reads past 140 mm look elsewhere. Six single colourways are $9.99 each, including an orange tortoise with a grey lens and a clear frame with a pink mirror. The five three-packs put a matte black beside a gradient brown and a tortoise, or a clear frame with pink, for $15.99, which is $5.33 a pair.
What the rating on the lens means
UV400 on a lens means the lens is rated to stop ultraviolet light up to a wavelength of 400 nanometres, which covers UVA and UVB, the two bands that reach the ground. That rating is the whole of what a sunglass lens does about the sun; polarization is a separate property that cuts reflected glare and, in the words of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, provides no UV protection on its own. The academy also says a darker lens is not a safer lens and that the sun's rays pass through haze and cloud, so the number to read on any pair, ours included, is the UV rating rather than the tint. A pair of sunglasses is not treatment for any eye condition, and light sensitivity that arrived suddenly is a question for an optometrist or ophthalmologist, not for a lens.

Can you get the BEALER women's rectangle with a grey lens?
